A group under the auspices of Facebook Connect, Nasarawa State, on Wednesday, paid a courtesy visit to the Nasarawa State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Amb. Lucky Isaac Yargwa, at the Ministry in Lafia.

According to the leader of the Group, Xulaihat Doma, the visit was to congratulate the Commissioner on his appointment by Governor Abdullahi Sule as Commissioner and to also inform him about their forthcoming programme which she said is slated for 27th August, 2022, in Lafia.

She  equally said the visit afforded them the opportunity to seek the support of the Ministry to ensure a successful event.

According to her, the upcoming programme with the theme, “Nasarawa State Youth: Future, Challenges & Prospects”, is aimed at finding means to dissuade youth from indulging in social vices.

Also to encourage unity, peaceful coexistence, self-reliance, positive use of the social media and to inculcate among young persons the culture of being productive to both themselves and society as a whole.

Responding, Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Amb. Lucky Isaac Yargwa, thanked the Group for the visit.

“Thank you for your visit, and thank you for your kind and progressive remarks”,

“If all youth Groups would tow the path you have taken, I believe we wouldn’t be having rancour here and there”,

“It’s quite unfortunate that some people have gone so low to abuse the use of the social media, mostly, for their selfish and ulterior motives, with little or no regards for our culture and leaders”,

“The media, especially the new media, has so much power and can change people’s perceptions, unless drastic measures are taken to curtail them”,

“I am not saying the social media should be gagged, but people must be seen to be using it for positive purposes, give proper and verifiable information – not misleading the audience”,

“Nobody is against criticisms. In fact, those who want to go far in life welcome criticisms, but those criticisms have to be constructive and without any prejudice attached”, he said

The Commissioner assured the Group of his and the Ministry’s support for their proposed programme.

“Laudable and noble as your programme is, kindly be assured of my support to its success. My Ministry, too, is in full support of your programme.

“I pray it’s a success, and the after-effect utilized accordingly”, he hoped.
