African Taekwondo Championship Ends With Nasarawa In Fourth Position

It was celebration galore in the camp of Team Nasarawa Taekwondo as their spirited efforts yielded them three Gold, one Silver and two Bronze medals respectively to end 4th position at the 15th edition of the Panamai(West African) and Cottage Mills Taekwondo Championship which held from 10th through to 15th August, 2022, in Lagos.

With over fifteen States from Nigeria and five West African countries participating in the five-day championship, Team Nasarawa athletes scuttled the odds to come 4th, with the trio of Ihuo Laady Louisa(-49kg Women’s Senior Category), Mildred Monday(-52kg Junior Category) and Agada Elijah(Poomsae) scooping one Gold medal each.

Emmanuel Kasimu Ayaka won Silver medal in the -45kg Category, while the duo of Maria Raphael (-46kg Women’s Category) and Bashir Usman(-63kg Men’s Category) won one Bronze medal separately.

Lagos State finished 1st  while Edo State and Ebonyi State took 2nd and 3rd positions respectively.

Other participating teams include Oyo, Kebbi, Abia, Rivers, Ogun, Delta, Bayelsa, Ondo, Oyo, Cross Rivers, Imo.

The West African countries include Togo, Ghana, Benin Republic, Ivory Coast, and Niger Republic.

Teams partook in Cadets, Juniors and Seniors’ events, with Team Nasarawa featuring in the Junior and Senior events.
