Rivers State Sports Commissioner, Barr. Chris Green has announced the immediate commencement of the refurbishment of the camp of Rivers Hoopers Basketball Club.
Barr. Green noted that the need for the refurbishment followed his recent visit to the camp of the Basketball club.
He expressed shock at the state of the facilities at the camp noting that it was in a dreadful state of dilapidation.
The Commissioner then expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Executive Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike (CON, GSSRS, POS Africa) for making it possible for the affected players and officials of Rivers Hoopers to enjoy a new lease of life.
“I was left in a state of shock when I saw how unkempt and dilapidated the Rivers Hoopers camp was,” Barrister Green said to the Rivers State Sports Ministry’s official media outlet.
“The place (camp) wasn’t habitable at all and represented a health hazard. I knew we had to take action immediately.
“Incidentally, the Rivers State Sports Council also have their offices at the same premises as the Hoopers and the situation is obviously the same.
“I have directed that Council is relocated to the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium and this will take immediate effect.
“We are going to use the overhead that has been provided by the Gov. Wike to renovate the place for the Rivers Hoopers, as well as the Adokiye Amiesimaka stadium for the offices for the staff to relocate.
“We want to thank his Excellency the Governor for providing the overhead to aid us this development.
“As a Ministry, we are committed to ensuring that funds meant for purpose are effectively and efficiently utilized.
“Everyone knows we (Rivers State) have the best Governor in Nigeria who will stop at nothing in ensuring that the welfare of every Rivers Man and Woman is top priority.
“Everyone is very happy and thankful to the Governor. The team have also vowed to give their best,” he concluded.
