African Democratic Congress (ADC) Senatorial Candidate for Anambra North District Hon. Mrs Uzoamaka Peace Obimuonso says she will facilitate creation of more cottage industries if voted into office.
Mrs Obimuonso while responding to questions from pressmen called on government to come to the rescue of Anambra flood victims.
According to the ADC Senatorial Candidate “My program for Anambra North is to sponsor and sport bills that will promote and protect their general well being, while my over sight function will be basically on wealth creation.
“This will be centered on use of our natural resources in Anambra North Senatorial Zone for major economic activities available in our environment, which needed to be harnessed. So that there will be more jobs for our teaming youth in Anambra North.
“I will facilitate creation of more cottage industries for our agro allied products, in terms of food processing and packaging for export. Not just for exports only but also for our super markets shelves.
“My office will ensure healthy distribution of resources within the zone and support for security of lives and properties of Anambra North, on the floor of the Senate with other relevant agencies.
“My office will facilitate establishment of digital empowerment school. Since the language of this millennium has become digital, any community that is lacking in digital forms of communication in her service delivery will be left behind in the scheme of things.
“The school shall also cover guidance and counseling for our youth in view of career opportunities available in Anambra North in terms of entrepreneurship, oil and gas, aviation, maritime, tourism and hospitality industries and most importantly development of fishery industries with our abundant water resources.
Reacting to the flood currently ravaging some communities in the state, the ADC candidate said Anambra North is one of the three Senatorial Zone in the state and is basically a riverine area. The indigenous people of Anambra North are basically farmers and fishermen. Anambra North is also one of the food basket of the nation.
“What I have to say about the recent flood menace in Anambra North is that, I was helpless in the sense that I was not able to help them enough, in order to avoid loss of lives, livehood and properties that followed as a result of the flood.
“The only thing that I could do was to send out warning on flood alert to some groups that I have access to informing them of the impending flood. Even when the flood started devastating Anambra North, my heart was with them. I kept on monitoring the situation.
“I thanked the state government for the provision of IDPs center. I also called on NEMA for early rescue as people would be trapped in some of the buildings in Anambra North as they were getting submerged by the flood.
“It was not easy on our people, even when some of them saw the ferocious nature of the flood, the temptation for them to abandon the source of their income was high. Some of our people who could not resist the temptation to abandon their farm produce, got drown by the flood.
“That was the story of some people from Nzam conveying their rice produce to market, unfortunately they lost their lives. It was the same story at Ogbaru, where some people had to beg a boat man to ferry them to market but they still could not make it because they lost their lives as a result of overload of goods and persons. Some persons were literally swept away from their houses by the menacing flood.
“All most all the houses in Anambra North got submerged by the flood. A lot of farm produce were lost to the flood. All these death could have been averted if the people were sure of the source of their next meal. Most times, the farmers borrow money from local money lender, which if they fail to pay back when due attracts heavy consequences.
“With all these calamities that has befallen us in these past weeks, Anambra State is yet to feel the presence of NEMA and Federal Ministry of Humanitarian, Social Development and Emergency Services.
She is equal to the task. Anambra North District should not miss this woman of substance. She is loaded. Spirituality with Civility
Of course am perceiving right movement of good government from Mrs Obimuonso. Pls the great people of Christ the King Amalgamated landlords Association Nka Estate Abata Nsugbe is highly expecting government aid toward this sudden menace in our community as the flood made away some houses, properties, farm crops etc in my community. Pls we’re seriously looking forward to receive some aid from Nema, Federal Ministry For Humanitarian etc.
