The event holds annually on the 11th of October to celebrate the importance and unique place of the girl child in an optimal society.

Speaking on this year’s theme ‘ OUR TIME IS NOW: OUR RIGHTS, OUR FUTURE ‘ the founder of the organisation Ms. Chidimma Sunshine Oramali encouraged the young girls to take charge of their future. In her words:

“Fellow girls, we can do this,
We are the pride of nature and every society,
The multiplier of all things good,
We give birth life and light,
We are the moulders and shapers of humans and invariably the world”,

“We are the embodiment of strength and resilience,
We are the glory of all God’s creatures,
Infact, we run the world.
And today in unison and one voice we ask the society to”,

“See us first as humans before any gender classification,
See the strength in our fragile physical built before calling us weak and inferior”,

“Give us our childhood before exposing us to motherhood, Send us to school before sending us to become wives. Correct us with love before thinking of the rod. Tap into our essence and bring out the best in us”,

“We know there is always room for improvement in development, therefore, we plead that they give us girls”, she said
