Uruogbu Village have defended and retained the trophy they won from the last edition of the Enugwu-Ukwu Unity Cup competition bankrolled by Hon. Ferdinand Dozie Nwankwo, member representing Dunukofia, Njikoka and Anaocha Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives and APGA candidate for Anambra Central Senatorial zone at the upcoming 2023 General Elections.

Uruogbu Village on Friday, 6th January 2023 defeated Avomimi Village by a solitary strike from Chimaobi Awagu in the 66th minutes of a pulsating final match played at Orabuike Primary School field Enugwu-Ukwu in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State.

They grabbed the grand prize of N500,000 while Avomimi Village settled for N300,000 with Umuatulu Ifiteani Village going home with the third prize of N200,000 after they saw off Uruekwo Village in a third and fourth place playoffs match earlier in the day.

Chinaza Okeke of Avowu Village emerged at the competition’s Highest Goal Scorer while Obinna Orjiakor of Avomimi Village was declared the Most Valuable Player (MVP) with Miracle Ejima of Uruogbu Village taking the award as the Best Goalkeeper of the tournament.

In his address, sponsor of the competition, Hon. Ferdinand Dozie Nwankwo stated that the essence of the annual football competition is to foster unity and peaceful coexistence amongst the villages in Enugwu-Ukwu using football and to provide a platform for the teeming youths of the community to showcase their sporting prowess and to be spotted by football scouts with a view to earning a career as professional footballers.

Present during the occasion was the Transition Committee Chairman of Njikoka LGA, Mr. Clems Aguiyi, President-General of Enugwu-Ukwu, Chief Patrick Nwaorji and ex-players of Rangers Int’l FC of Enugu.
