A group of football enthusiasts under the umbrella of Unity FC gathered in Awka to add their voice to the growing support for Obi/Datti movement

The group cladded in Obi/Datti branded jersey played a friendly game at the Awka Township Stadium.

Unity FC is a gathering of like minds since 2012 and moving the friendship further chose football as an instrument to oil the wheel of their togetherness.

The friendly match was played amongst members of the club divided into two groups.

Team chairman that won last year’s Unity FC annual league played against rest of the club members.

Emmanuel Nkili opened scoring for Team Chairman when despite his weight made good use of a pass resulting from a counter move, volleying the ball beyond the keeper who had a wrong calculation of the ball movement.

A thirty first minute equalizer courtesy of lanky Ezinwanne Nnabuife brought back confidence to Team Chairman as they made few other attempts at goal but were properly checkmated.

Ezinwanne Nnabuife increased the tally ten minutes into the second half but eleven minutes later Chika Igwemmadu restored parity for the lemon shirted rest of the Unity FC team.

Twelve minutes to the end of the game, an unsportman tackle in the box resulted in a penalty in favour of Team Chairman and was converted by Elochi Nnuka.

Though the match ended 3-2 in favour of Team Chairman, it was a family affair as both teams quickly merged into one to enjoy themselves as is the tradition of the club to eat, drink and make merry after training which comes up every Sunday at Amawbia.

Speaking after the match, Founder of the club, Hon. Chimezie Okoye said that the essence of the friendly game was to show support for Obi/Datti movement.

“We played this match in solidarity to our loving father, son and brother, His Excellency Mr Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for Labour party. That is why we have his name and that of his running mate on our jersey”,

“We are totally supporting our brother. We also believe that among the four major presidential candidates in the forthcoming general election, he is the best and remains the best”,

“And with this match, l am equally telling my members, the youth and other Nigerians to join us and let us take back our country”, he appealed.
