The Chairman of the Anambra State Football Association (ANSFA), Chief Chikelue Iloenyosi, has extended his heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Chief Festus Adegboye Onigbinde, a legendary figure in Nigerian football, who passed away at 88.

Chief Iloenyosi in a condolence message made available to the media described Coach Onigbinde’s demise as a significant loss to Nigerian football. “We mourn the loss of a giant in our football history. Coach Onigbinde’s achievements on the pitch and his leadership are a testament to his dedication and expertise,” he said.

The ANSFA Chairman recalled Onigbinde’s notable achievements, including leading the Super Eagles to the 2002 FIFA World Cup and securing silver medals at the 1984 African Cup of Nations. “He was an icon, and his contributions to Nigerian football will never be forgotten,” Chief Iloenyosi said.

Onigbinde also had success at the club level, guiding Shooting Stars Sports Club, Ibadan, to silver at the 1984 African Club Champions Cup. “His legacy extends beyond his trophies; he inspired generations of coaches and players,” the ANSFA Chairman added.

Chief Iloenyosi prayed for the repose of Coach Onigbinde’s soul and expressed his condolences to the family, friends, and the football fraternity. “May Coach Onigbinde’s soul rest in peace, and may his legacy continue to inspire future generations of Nigerian footballers.”
