Amawbia have emerged champions of the 2022/23 season of the Obizi Unity Cup bankrolled by the member representing Awka South Constituency Two at the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Chukwuma Pius Okoye.

In a competitive finals played at the Central School field (Aguogba) Amawbia on Sunday, 1st January 2023, Amawbia saw off defending champions Nise 4-2 on penalties after a goalless affair in regulation time.

In the third and fourth place playoffs earlier in the day, Umuawulu failed to turn up in time as they were walked over by Nibo who took home the third prize of N200,000 while Umuawulu and the remaining three communities of the Obizi Kingdom such as Mbaukwu, Isiagu and Ezinator each got N100,000 from the competition’s benefactor.

Other individual awards such as the Best Behaved team went to Ezinator with a prize of N20,000, the best shotstopper of the competition went to Nise’s Azubuike Eze who also got N20,000 for his exploits while the goalkeeper of Amawbia Town, Miracle Ejima claimed the gong for the Most Valuable Player of the competition also with a prize of N20,000.

Hon. Chief Chukwuma Okoye has sponsored the Obizi Unity Cup for five years leading this year’s event.

The lawmaker is also the sponsored of the Ugboogiliga Challenge cup, a football competition for the six villages of Amawbia as well as the Ugboogiliga Fitness Walk.
