Nnewi United FC have moved to the semi finals stage of the ongoing 2022 Ifeanyi Ekwueme Tico/Select Preseason Tournament.

They secured the semis berth with a  2-0 win against Apex Krane FC in their final group A match Thursday afternoon at Legacy Pitch, Enugu.

Turkey returnee, Clinton Omonedo and his Serbia returnee teammate, Chibueze Ohiri, scored in the first half to make the semi finals journey easy for the Anaedo warlords.

The Ben Okaro lads rolled out their steam early on and forced Apex Krane on the back foot.

Clinton expertly converted from the spot after an Nnewi Utd defender was adjudged to have handled the ball in the area.

Serbia returnee, Chibueze Ohiri, doubled the advantage in the closing stages of the first period to plant the Anaedo Lions supremely on top of the group A standings with seven points, following two wins and a draw.

Apex Krane were presented with a golden opportunity to half the scoreline with three minutes before regulation time when but Nnewi United goalkeeper, Uche Iloh, guessed rightly and went down low and fast to cuddle firmly Nnaemeka Achi’s penalty kick.

Afterwards, Benjamin Okaro, head coach of Nnewi United told Exclusivenews.com.ng that Tico/Select Preseason Tournament is of great value to his team.

“We came here with 30 players. With the Tico/Select Preason Tournament, we are able to take a good look at everyone of them”, Okaro, an ex Rangers midfielder said.
