Two playing personnel of Olive Charles Football Club of Ogidi on Saturday, 15th October 2022 made history as they helped their team to emerge champions of the 2022 edition of the Bayern Munich Youth Global Cup.

The duo of Ugochukwu Kanu and Uchenna Onoja of Olive Charles FA were part of the 10-member playing personnel of Team Nigeria to the global showpiece for teenagers held at the OlympiaStadion Munich, Germany.

Team Nigeria defeated their Japanese opponent 3-1 to win the coveted trophy.

Reacting to the development, President of the Academy who bankrolled the trip for the boys, Amb. Charles Atuanya expressed his delight that Kanu and Onoja are part of the successful contingent who made the trip to Germany.

“I must say that am delighted first of all that we emerged Champions of this year’s edition of the FC Bayern Munich Youth Global Cup. Kudos to Aspire Foundation who hosted the Nigerian edition held at the Awka City Stadium earlier this year. Two of my boys, Ugochukwu Kanu and Uchenna Onoja were part of the victorious side which is a big development for the history of Olive Charles Academy,” Atuanya said.

“The positive news will serve as a moral booster for their teammates back here in Nigeria as it will justify hard work, commitment and discipline. I am hopeful that Kanu and Onoja will ink a deal in Germany in the aftermath of this programme,” Atuanya stated.

Team Nigeria saw off Japan 3-1 in the finals of the FC Bayern Munich Youth Global Cup. In achieving the feat they defeated Singapore and Japan 3-0 and 1-0 respectively while playing out a 2-2 draw against Mexico in the round robin Group stages before nutmegging Argentina 4-0 in the Semi-finals and capping off a superlative performance with the win in the finals against their asian opponent.
