To assuage the level of damage caused by the recent flooding in Ayamelum council area, the candidate of Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) for Oyi/Ayamelum Federal Constituency in the 2023 elections, Dr. Amaechi Nwachukwu has offered free medical treatments, distributed food items and household materials to the affected homeless victims.

Speaking during the the medical outreach and presentation of the items at an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP)’s camp in Igbakwu community, Dr. Nwachukwu said that devastating effect of the flood especially on the social and economical lives of the victims is enormous.

According to him, it is a moral responsibility upon him and any other well-to-do person to assist the victims considering the number of disease outbreaks with domestic and farm products lost to the flood disaster.

He explained that the distribution of the relief materials is targeted at flood affected communities in the Council Area to ameliorate the hardship occasion with the ugly incident. He said his vision and motivation geared toward to help the affected individuals attain at least a minimal state of well being.

Dr Nwachukwu emphasized that the relief materials were only to cushion the effect of the devastating flood on the people, not a lasting solution to the challenges posed by the flood. He called on well meaning Nigerians and indigenes of the state to support its people who lost their means of livelihood and property to the flood.

On the other hand, the medical practitioner said that the medical outreach and treatments were in line with his corporate social responsibility and were designed to help in uplifting the unhealthy condition of flood victims, who must have contracted some diseases associated with flood disaster such as malaria, typhoid, hypertension and other ailments.

Relief materials donated were; 10 bags of 50kg rice, bags of salt, 50 cartons of noodles, packs of toiletries, medicinal drugs, monetary assistance, etc.
