NSCDC Holds Safe, Secure Environment Program For Students In Oyo

Oyo command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on Tuesday held a capacity building program on initiatives of providing a safe and secure environment for students in institutions of learning.

The training which was organised for the Safe Schools Response Team of the NSCDC, held at Nigerian Army 2 Division, Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonment, Ojoo, Ibadan.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the state Commandant, Michael Adaralewa charged the participants to be active in the exercise and replicate same in their places of work.

“Training and retraining is one of the focal agenda of the Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in particular is his Commitment to ensuring that Federal Government initiative of providing a safe and secure environment for student in our institution becomes an achievable dream.”

He urged all participants to take the exercise seriously and participate actively saying, “Apply what you learn in this exercise to your work and contribute to the success of the safe school response team, he stated.

During his keynote address, Major General B A Alabi, GOC Division Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonment represented by Brigadier General BMG Martins Commended the authority of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps for the initiative of this safe school project to protect the lives of school children.

“We want what happened in Chibok to be things of the past, we don’t want it for our children”.

The Commissioner of Police Oyo State, CP Adebola Hamzat represented by AC Operation, ACP Ekanem Usen, lauded Oyo command of NSCDC for synergy with other security agencies even as he pledged that the Nigerian Army will continue to work with the Corps for national security.

Meanwhile, giving the brief on National Safe Schools Response Coordination Centre (NSSRCC) by the Commander, Chief Superintendent of Corps Tersoo Shaapera, he made informed that it is important for all security agencies to strengthen their collaboration and synergy in ensuring maximum security for schools.

The exercise Safe Schools 2023 for the South west zone comprises of delegations from Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, Ekiti and Lagos States which commenced on Sunday, October 1, 2023 and will end on Thursday 5th October, 2023.
