Nasarawa State Governor, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, has called on Corps Members serving in the State not to take sides but be patriotic as they partake in the forthcoming Nigeria General Elections.

The Governor made the call during the swearing-in ceremony of the Batch A, Stream One Corps Members at the Magaji Dan Yamusa Permanent NYSC Orientation Camp in Keffi on Friday.

He said the hospitable people of the State are ready to receive them at the end of the Orientation Camp.

Represented by the State’s Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Ambassador Lucky Isaac Yargwa, the Governor enjoined the Corps Members to pay attention to all Camp activities and Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development Classes to be self-reliant after their service year.

“As Corps Members, you are major stakeholders in the electoral process and will be playing a vital role in ensuring that the elections are free, fair and credible.

“I urge you all to be apolitical and give credence to our electoral values.

“I wish to inform you that I have given directive to the relevant Ministry to commence preparatory works on a befitting hall.”

Chairman, of the State NYSC Governing Board and Commissioner for Special Duties, Legal Matters and Youth Affairs, Barrister Hannatu Abimiku assured Corps Members of maximum security and better welfare packages to enable them quickly adapt and contribute their quota in their places of primary assignment, the State and Nation in general.

Earlier, the State Co-ordinator of the NYSC, Alhaji Abdullahi Jikamshi, explained that every activity in Camp is compulsory for all Corps Members, hence they should actively participate and obey all Camp rules and regulations.

While thanking stakeholders for their support towards the Scheme, he appealed to the Governor to build a three thousand-capacity Multi-purpose Hall at the Orientation Camp to enable Staff and Corps Members to have a smooth Orientation exercise.

“Your Excellency, Sir, may I remind you of our previous request for a 3,000 capacity Multi-purpose Hall at the Orientation Camp for the Corps Members, as a matter of urgency, as the present Hall is grossly inadequate.”

The State Coordinator used the occasion to sympathize with the Governor, his family and people of Nasarawa State over the sudden death of his son, Hassan A.A. Sule, praying to Almighty Allah to forgive the deceased his shortcomings and grant him eternal repose.

A total of one thousand, one hundred and fifteen Batch A, Stream One Corps Members were deployed to Nasarawa State for the compulsory one year National Service.
