The commissioner for sports, Bayelsa state, Chief Daniel Igali has called on the organizers of the ongoing National Sports Festival to ensure prompt and early release of results and medals table

The Wrestling Federation Boss made the call while speaking to journalists at the wrestling venue of the competition today.

While commending the Delta state government for investing such enormous resources resources to put up one of the best festivals, the former Commonwealth Wrestling Champion said that unnecessary delay in release of results and medals table does not do justice to promptness in a competition such as Nigeria’s Olympics.

“In my opinion, Delta state have done very well. In this time of financial difficulties, you have a state government spend such enormous resources to put up this kind of tournament together, it’s appreciable”,

“But what l am not too pleased with is the late release of results. I have made it a point in my federation that if we finish competition today, before we start the next session tomorrow, our results for today must reflect on the final table”,

“I find it very difficult to understand why some federations can’t do that. Because as l speak to you, Bayelsa state has won 58 gold medals, we have 36 silver Medals and 50 bronze Medals”,

“We have over 140 medals as we speak but what is reflected is 15 gold medals which does not for me do justice to promptness in a competition of this magnitude”,

“I really want to call on the authorities to ensure that every federation does what is required of them. Within 24 hours results should be on the final table to be presented by the MOC”,

“It does not tell well on us if after seven days of competition, you are still just showing what Bayelsa won on day two of this competition. So please the authorities should take note and ensure that results are put on for public display as soon as possible so that it will reflect the accurate position of all states”,

“That way we all know where we need to do better, if we are behind we need to know why we are behind. But if you are at 58 gold medals and 15 is reflected, it doesn’t really tell good of us and that is something we need to improve on”, he said.
