Heartland Queens have booked their passage to the quarterfinals of the nation’s oldest and glamorous football showpiece, Aiteo Cup.

The qualification came after a spirited and emphatic 2-1 win against hard fighting Dannaz Ladies in the round of 16 clash decided at the mainbowl of Warri City Stadium on Thursday.

The Owerri landladies’ clinical and lethal finisher, Lucky Mary scored the match opener to end the half on a lone goal in favour of her side.

The opponents came back strongly from the break to even score almost taking the match to penalty shootouts before the Owerri side’s captain Oluomachi Onwere jabbed home the match winner in added time.

The victory confirmed the Owerri side’s supremacy over the Lagos side whom they outscored with same goal margin during the 2021/2022 NWFL Championship promotion playoff in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.

Heartland Queens will now square up against last year edition’s nemesis, Delta Queens in the quarterfinals on Monday, August 08.

The Asaba side out- punched their Championship side’s opponents, Honey Badgers 2-0 at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri.

Heartland Queens are in the quarterfinals for the very first time in the history of the annual football showpiece known for its many surprises and as no respecter of any team.
