As the World Clean Up Day Celebration of September 19 draws near; the removal of #5million plastics from our environment to celebrate #EARTHFESTIVAL Nigeria 2020 gets intense all over the country.

The campaign is to rid off Nigeria environment with plastic wastes that causes health hazards.

The Anambra team on it’s part on Sunday 4th September, 2020 at Obiano’s Park in Upper Iweka, Onitsha picked a total of nine thousand plastics(9000) plastic bottle wastes within a regulated time of 3:00hrs.

The leader of the team and MD of Anambra State Waste Management Agency, Hon. Amaechi Akorah said that the Campaign is an Initiative of Humanity Nigeria – a group of young professionals from diverse background who have put plans to remove about five million plastic bottle wastes from the Nigerian environment.

With this vision Mr Akorah said, ” a clean environment and a safe earth for all can be achieved”. He also reiterated the earnest desire of the present administration to rid off plastics wastes from the streets of Anambra because it blocks the flood channels whenever it rains .

Also speaking, the state commander of Environmental Ethics and Safety Corps, Comrade Ikechukwu Nwankwo said his Organization is participating in the campaign as a way of supporting the government’s effort of taking away these plastic bottle wastes that cause obstruction in the water ways with a resultant effect of erosion and urged Ndi Anambra to join the campaign.

Chinaza Ibenta, Youth Leader of Anambra State Girls Guide Association and Endurance Peter of Royal Rangers Nigeria said that plastic bottle is a treasure that can be recycled and reused and therefore call on Ndi Anambra rather than littering the environment with plastic wastes, let them sell to companys that need it for recycling.

Anambra State Waste Management Agency (ASWAMA) is leading Rotary International, Nigeria Girls Guide Association, Boys Scout Nigeria, National Youth Service Corps, Royal Rangers International, Red Cross, NESERA, Man ‘O’ War , Peace Corps Nigeria, African Clean Up Initiative, #TrashTagTeamAnambra, ASCDFPA, National Light Newspapers and Humanitarian World Outreach in this Campaign with I-WITNESS as the official Media partner.

The Earth Festival Nigeria 2020 week ran from 22-27 September, 2020.

It is expected that the 2022 edition of the program will achieve more success.
