NPFL defending Champions, Enyimba FC made amends of their last home game against Rangers with an away win in Yenogoa.

The Coach Finidi George side who dropped points at home in their match day 15 encounter against Rangers Int’l at home chose to give fans of the People’s Elephant an early New Year gift when they beat Bayelsa United 1-2 at their back yard.

Ekene Awazie who was returning from injury rose from the bench to give the 9 times league champions the lead 2 minute after his introduction for Chidiebere Nnachi at the 65th minute of play.

The home side rallied back into the contest through 72nd minute equalizer moments after Enyimba hit the wood work at the end.

Enyimba’s top scorer, Chijioke Mbaoma restored the lead from the penalty spot for the Aba side after he dusted himself after he was brought down inside the box to score his 5th of the league.

Highlight of the match day 16 NPFL encounter was the brilliant penalty save by AFCON bound Enyimba Captain and goalkeeper, Olorunleke Ojo who denied the home side another equalizer with fantastic save in the match that also saw the return of Chibuike Nwaiwu who also came in from the bench.

Coach Finidi who said he would have loved to see his front line score more goals said his team is ready to give defending their title a try.

“So many things happened, we had our penalty, they also had but they didn’t and we had many chances which should have given us two extra goals.

“The away points is going to go well for us after dropping points at home.

“Everything is possible, we have played all most the top teams, defending the league we don’t know yet but we are ready to give it a trial.

Enyimba is now 4th on log with 26 points after 14 games, 3 from the top side, Remo Stars who lost at Owerri to Heartland FC 3-1 on 29 points.
