Enyimba FC Record 10th ‘Abia Derby’ Victory Over Warriors

NPFL defending champions, Enyimba FC on Sunday recorded their 10th ‘Abia Derby’ victory against Abia Warriors.

The People’s Elephant did put up a starling performance to the delight of the fans including the Commissioner for Sports in the state but the the moment loss of concentration that allowed the Umuahia side earn a consolation goal late in the added time.

Hard working and ever presence all round midfielder, Eze Happy Ekwutoziam gave the People’s Elephant the lead late in the first half while Chidiebere Nnachi stood strong to grab his first of the season and an insurance goal for the Aba Landlords mid way in the second stanza before allowing the visitors some room to grab a lat consolation late in the added time to make it 2-1.

Reacting after the thrilling encounter, Coach Finidi George regretted the missed chances especially in the first 25 minutes noting that the goals are very important.
The former Super Eagles winger also condemned the players loss of concentration in the last 7 minutes which allowed their opponents get a goal.

“I wasn’t happy in the last seven minutes, it was as if we were inviting them to come score which they did. I have spoken to them and it won’t happen against.

“In the league we need goals, a match like this the opportunity presented itself and we didn’t take them.

“It’s a derby and they really fought hard to get a consolation goal but most importantly we got the three points.

“For Eze, the guy is fantastic, he is a player who can play many positions in the field of play, Right Back , Centre or even the left back and we will keep encouraging him, this is my 3rd season with him in Enyimba.

“We are also happy for Chidiebere Nnachi, he is a young lad with lots of energy and the goal will add more confidence to his game, we will keep encouraging him and continue to use his energy.

“We must give the team kudos and try to enjoy the victory despite the mistakes in the dying minutes and in the training we will correct the errors.

Highlight of the match was the presentation of the Man of the Match Award to Eze Happy Ekwutoziam.
