In a bid to bring dividends of democracy to his people, the member representing Awka South Constituency Two at the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Chukwuma Pius Okoye, on Tuesday, 20th December 2022 embarked on constituency empowerment programme.
The empowerment programme which took place at Central School field (Aguogba) Amawbia was the second edition of the annual event as part of the lawmaker’s promise towards his people.
Presenting the items which includes 15 tricycles, 25 hair dryers, 50 sewing machines, 15 chest freezers, 12 grinding machines, 5 sienna vehicles, 1 car and 2 motorcycles, the lawmaker assured his people of continuous, effective and quality representation.
Hon. Okoye said the ceremony was an opportunity to provide succour for the less privileged and empower members of his constituents who are already endowed with skills but lacking in the necessary facilities to help them start a business of their own towards becoming future entrepreneurs.
The legislator called on the entire Obizi kingdom to vote the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) at the forthcoming 2023 general elections from the senatorial seats down to the state House of Assembly candidates.
In his remarks, the Deputy Governor of the State, His Excellency Dr. Onyekachi Ibezim eulogized Hon. Okoye for effective representation and magnanimity exhibited at his constituency.
He said that Okoye has always embarked upon projects that are verifiable. Ibezim disclosed that the government of the day is poised towards empowering the youths of the state through sustainable structures that will imbue them with at least two skills.
The Deputy Governor revealed that a huge sum of N2.5 billion has been earmarked for youth empowerment programmes in the 2023 appropriation bill.
In his speech, the member representing Dunukofia, Njikoka and Anaocha Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives and APGA Candidate for Anambra Central Senatorial seat, Hon. Ferdinand Dozie Nwankwo applauded the legislator for the thoughtful initiative.
He said that the empowerment drive will address the unemployment challenges in his constituency. He called on other public office holders to emulate Hon. Okoye.
The National Chairman of APGA, Chief Victor Oye and the Deputy Speaker, Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Pascal Agbodike both said that the party is proud of Hon. Okoye for empowering his constituents as well as fulfilling the promise he made to them.
In his response, one of the recipients and now a car owner, Okwuchukwu Godfrey Nwana said the day was the happiest moment in his life, he said the car gift will be fully utilized for his transportation business. He prayed for God’s blessings and unending upliftment on the life and family of Hon. Okoye.
On her part, Nzube Okechukwu, a seamstress who got empowered with fully equipped sewing machine, thanked Hon. Okoye for his philanthropic gesture towards her and other constituency members, she said the machine will help her in actualization of her dreams of being a fashion designer and seamstress.
Presentation of the empowerment materials formed the high points of the occasion. Present during the event were lawmakers, APGA party faithfuls, political appointees, President Generals of the seven communities of Obizi, friends and well wishers.
