NSF: Gov. Abiodun Rewards Ogun State Medalists

The Governor of Ogun State, Oluseun Abiodun on Tuesday celebrated winners of different categories of medals from the state contigent that took part in the just concluded National Sports Festival held in Asaba, Delta State.

The medals numbering fifteen gold, eighteen silver and thirty seven bronze medals were won in Cycling, para table tennis, Dart, boxing, para athletics, scrabble, para swimming, teakwando, Badminton,volleyball and gymnastics,

The state which won the hosting right for the 2024 biennial Sports festival clinched the 8th position on the medal table.

Four hundred and twenty five athletes, fifty five coaches, forty four support officials and personnel graced the tournament, while the state participated in twenty nine events at the festival, both in both male and female categories.

Receiving the state-contingent at the Oba Complex, Okemosan on Tuesday, Governor Abiodun hailed them for the excellent outing during the course of the festival.

He announced one milliion naira price money for each of the fifteen gold medals won and an additional rewards of N1million each for two gold medalists to encourage them more.

Abiodun also rewarded the silver medalists with five hundred thousand naira two hundred and fifty thousand naira for the thirty seven bronze medalists.

Athletes without a medal were given hundred thousand naira each.

In his response, the state Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Dr Oluwadare Kehinde thanked the governor for his kind gesture, promising that the team will repay his goodwill with excellent result come 2024.

He said that Athletes will camp for one year ahead off the 2024 National Sports Festiva adding that facilities for 2024 Sports Festival will be world class.
