The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) FCT chapter has rolled out drums in celebration of Alhaji Abba Yola, Chief of Staff to Minister of Youth and Sports Development Mr. Sunday Dare, who was prestigiously honoured as the Pan African Icon of Sports Award.

SWAN FCT Chairman, Mr. Ndubueze Chidoka, in an official congratulatory message in Abuja on Monday, described the award to Alhaji Yola as deserving of a top notch Sports Personality and Administrator Per Excellence.

He said the Awardee has over the years proven to be a distinct leader, and his track records have continued to endear him to many.

“I have known Alhaji Abba Yola as a man of good and neat track records at any position or responsibility he is faced with. I’m not surprised with this recognition.

“And I believe this will continue to spur him to do more in the future as one who is endowed with sound leadership skills,” the SWAN FCT chairman added.

The Pan African Icon of Sports Award was bestowed on Alhaji Yola by the Youth Partnership For Africa’s Development (YOUPAD) at the weekend in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

He is one of the presidential candidates jostling to lead the incoming executive board of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

Ikenna Okonkwo
Secretary, SWAN FCT
