Nasarawa State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Amb. Lucky Isaac Yargwa, has called on youth, especially girls and young women, to think beyond their sex so as to fulfill their God-given potentials and change the world.
The Commissioner made the call when he played host to the State leadership of The Girls’ Brigade on Friday at his office in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Isah Mohammed Eya, the Commissioner also called on women to work in bond to overcome the challenges facing them and as well contribute their quota to the overall development of the State and nation as a whole.
He stressed that the roles of women in the development of the society can not be undermined, and that until they are conscious of this fact, they will not be able to tackle their own problems effectively.
Yargwa added that at various fora, women had been tested and trusted with leadership positions and lived far above board, emphasizing that The Girls’ Brigade is a well-coordinated organisation known for nurturing and grooming girls and young women to become beacons of hope, excellence and worthy ambassadors in the society and for the Kingdom.
While thanking the Group for the visit, the Commissioner assured that the Ministry would partner with them, both in their forthcoming programme, and subsequent activities to enable them attain their goals of raising worthy agents of positive change.
In her earlier remarks, Commissioner, Girls’ Brigade Nigeria, 17th Division, Nasarawa State, Mrs. Ewuga Everister Sunday, stated that they were at the Ministry to familiarize with the Commissioner and notify him about their forthcoming programme which is in commemoration of the International Day of the Girl Child slated for 11th October, 2022.
She disclosed that in line with the theme for this year’s celebration, which is “Our Time Is Now, Our Right, Our Future”, her organisation is organising a sensitisation and awareness campaign and lecture in selected public schools in the State, and needed the support of the Commissioner and Ministry to host a successful event scheduled for the Ibrahim Abacha Youth Centre, Lafia.
The Girls’ Brigade is an international, interdenominational christian youth organization which focuses on working among girls and women.
It empowers girls, children and young women in local communities around the world to be themselves, to develop and use their gifts and skills, and to discover what it means to have life to the full in their generation.
Directors of the Ministry joined the Permanent Secretary in receiving the august visitors.
