In continuation of the Command’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the operations of Private Security outfits, Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corp (NSCDC) Anambra State Command within the week arrested four personnel of some unregistered Private security guards.

The arrested persons are, Jubril Isah Samuel, Nzekwe Samson Kosi, Aneke Chidiebere and Egwuda David Ojochegbe. They were in possession of two (2) pump action shotguns .

The four persons were arrested at various points in Awka following credible intelligence worked upon by the Corps.

Deputy Commandant Francis Obinna Nnadi, head of Private Guards Company department who led the operation said the arrest and recovery of the two pump action guns became imperative following discovery that most of those operating as private security outfits failed to adhere to the general regulations governing the operation.

It was also discovered that they don’t operate under the activities of Private Guard Companies as stated in The Private Guards Companies Act Cap. P30, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 and in line with the NSCDC Act Section 3, subsection b, c, d of 2007 as amended .

According to him, the State Commandant of NSCDC Anambra State Command, Isidore Chukwudi Chikere in his determination to professionalize the industry mandated the Private Guard Company Department to rid the state of all unregistered Private security outfits providing services to the financial sector, the private sector and many commercial ventures without proper licensing by the Federal Government through the NSCDC across the State.

He warned intending new operators to adhere strictly to the guidelines and conditions stipulated by law for the operation of Private Guard Company or face the wrath of the law.

Deputy Commandant Nnadi who said that Section 17 of the Private Guard Decree, 1986, as amended in 2004, expressly forbids private security guards from carrying arms and advised residents of the state to confirm from NSCDC the auntheticity and credibility of any Private Guard Company before requesting for their services.

He said that the command will give preference to close monitoring and supervision of Private Security Guards practicing in the State.

Meanwhile, Investigation is ongoing after which the four arrested guards will be arraigned in court
