Lack of Power , access road and cost of diesel are some of the challenges confronting local production companies in Awka North local government area of Anambra state.
Our Correspondent Spoke with a chief executive of a manufacturing company who appealed to federal and Anambra state government to urgently review downwards the prices of raw materials to enable them cope with production.
The Federal and State governments over the years have been calling on the people to embrace locally made goods with the aim of promoting and boosting local productions which will in turn increase the nation’s GDP.
However according to the respondents , realising that loafty objective may not be possible due to the daunting challenges confronting local factories in Nigeria.
For instance, a Food and beverage factory, Kings Park Production Limited , established six years ago in Achalla has never used national grid despite operating within the capital city of the local government.
The Chief Executive,Chief Kingsely Ughamadu narrated that the high cost of gas which suddenly rose from about three hundred to eight hundred naira have continued to be a major set back to the factory that has about sixty five workers .
Chief Ughamadu revealed that the situation has adversely affected their production as the capacity of production per day keeps going down due to myriad of challenges.
He noted that the aim of establishing the multi million naira worth project in the local community was to contribute to local production and provide employment for the people.
Chief Ughamadu who is the YPP Candidate for Awka North and South Federal Constituency and indigene of Achalla, said the aim for the project may not be realized if both the federal and state governments does not urgently come their rescue by providing basic infrastructures like electricity , Water and access road.
The Chairman of Odimma Awka North, a Pressure group championing the course of attracting more development to the area, Chief Shedrack Anakwue regretted that local companies that should be opening up the area were closing down due to lack of government assistance.
Chief Anakwue who led other members of the group on a visit to some establishments in the area commended Chief Ughamadu for not letting the numerous challenges discourage his good foresight.
The beverage company produces bottled water, Yughort, Alcoholic bitters among others.
