A non governmental organization, the League of Character Clubs International has conferred a Grassroots Promoter Award to Radio Nigeria Creek 106.5 FM, Yenagoa.
Also handed the Award is Mr. Datonye Fred Alambo, a Controller News with the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria and Chairman of the Bayelsa State Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN.
At the ceremony held at the Broadcast House of Creek FM located inside the old secretariat complex in Yenagoa, President General of the League of Character Clubs International, High Chief Christian Kokoriko and National Director of Women Affairs and Protocol, Mrs. Victoria Kokoriko said both the station and Mr. Alambo were conferred with the award for consistently promoting grassroots sports in the country.
In a response, the General Manager of Radio Nigeria, Creek 106.5 FM Yenagoa, Mr. Sunday Udosen thanked the League of Character Club for the award.
He gave an assurance that the award would spur Creek FM and the FRCN to do more in the area of grassroots sports development.
Meanwhile, Sampou Grammar School of Bayelsa State have emerged winners of the Eze Gbakagbaka Youth Soccer Cup Competition 2022, after defeating Randolph Comprehensive College, Rivers State by a goal to nothing in the final match at the Saint Andrews’ Primary School Field Mile 1, Diobu Port-Harcourt.
Community Secondary School Okoloba also of Bayelsa State pipped Zion International High School 1-0 to clinch third place.
The soccer tournament was organised by the League of Character Clubs Nigeria, led by the President General of League of Character Clubs Nigeria, High Chief Christian Kokoriko for secondary schools in Rivers and Bayelsa State in honour of a former Deputy Governor of the Old Rivers State in the second Republic, the late King Frank Eke, the Eze Gbakagbaka of Evo Kingdom in Rivers State.
The Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo was made a Grand Patron of the Club while a former deputy Governor of the Old Rivers State in the second Republic, the late King Frank Eke was given a post humous Golden Award among other personalities.
President General of the League of Character Clubs International, High Chief Christian Kokoriko advised aspiring footballers to take their career and educational pursuit seriously, stating that the next edition of the tournament will be hosted in Bayelsa State.
He appreciated the donor of the Cup, King Leslie Nyebuchi Eke, the Eze Gbakagbaka of Evo Kingdom in Rivers State for encouraging youths through the grassroots competition for schools in Bayelsa and Rivers States.
