The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Anambra State Chapter, recently held its 2024 SWAN Week, where outstanding contributors to sports development in the state were recognized and awarded.
Among the recipients was the Anambra State Beach Soccer Association, which took home the prestigious award for “The Most Active Sports Association in Anambra State”.
The association’s chairman, Professor Victor Madubuko, was honored for his exceptional leadership and achievements in promoting beach soccer in the state. Under his guidance, the association has accomplished several remarkable feats, including:
– Forming the association and establishing a strong presence in the state
– Hosting the first recognized female beach soccer game in Nigeria
– Creating the “Anambra Beach Soccer Warriors” team, which finished second in the 2024 Nigeria Beach Soccer League
– Hosting the second round of the 2024 NBSL season in Nnewi
– Building the first beach soccer pitch in the state
– Producing players who were selected for the national team, “The Sand Eagles”
The chairman of SWAN Anambra, Mr. Patrick Anaso, praised Professor Madubuko’s achievements, noting that they were accomplished in less than a year since the association’s formation. He also acknowledged that the association’s success was largely due to Professor Madubuko’s financial support and dedication.
Mr. Anaso urged the state government and private partners to support the association’s efforts and help sustain its progress.
Representing Professor Madubuko, Okwudili Emmanuel thanked SWAN for the recognition and promised that the association would continue to strive for excellence.
