Nine-time Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) champions, Enyimba FC, have made a significant statement of intent with the acquisition of former Super Eagles striker and 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) winner, Brown Ideye.

The club’s Sporting Director and ex-Super Eagles winger, Ifeanyi Ekwueme, has expressed his delight over the signing, emphasizing the potential impact of Ideye’s experience and leadership on the squad.

“We are delighted to get Ideye because he will help solve our problem of scoring goals. His experience and exposure will also motivate our young strike force to do more. He will be a massive inspiration as our young players will look up to him and also up their game.”

Ideye, who previously starred for clubs like West Bromwich Albion in England, returns to Nigeria’s top flight at a time when the league is witnessing a growing trend of former internationals coming back to reinvest their talent and influence in domestic football.

He joins Ahmed Musa, another Super Eagles stalwart, in making a similar return to the local league.

This move aligns with a storied tradition of Nigerian football greats returning to the NPFL towards the twilight of their careers.

Legends like the late Rashidi Yekini (Gate FC), Mobi Oparaku (Nasarawa United), and others left indelible marks during their respective stints.

For Enyimba, Ideye’s arrival is more than just a transfer; it represents a bold effort to address the club’s goal-scoring challenges and inspire a new generation of talent.

The Aba-based outfit has endured a mixed run in front of goal, and the inclusion of a seasoned forward like Ideye could be the spark needed to reignite their attacking firepower.

Fans of the “People’s Elephant” are buzzing with anticipation as the striker is set to join the squad next week. His influence on and off the pitch is expected to galvanize Enyimba’s title ambitions while also reinforcing the growing appeal of the NPFL as a platform for top-tier football talent.

With Ideye leading the charge, Enyimba FC appears poised to reclaim its dominance and write a new chapter in its illustrious history.
