…. Tasks Market Leaders On Indiscriminate dumping of Refuse

Uzo Ugwunze

The Executive Chairman Idemili North Local Government Area, Chief Stanley Nkwoka has embarked on Beautification projects at the Enugu/Onitsha Expressway- Flyover Nkpor and Nkpor Junction roundabout in preparation of the Christmas yuletide.

The Beautification project commenced Tuesday with a comprehensive environmental sanitation and excavation of loose sands around and on top of the flyover which will be followed by the painting of the flyover brick railings to give the environment a facelift.

During an inspection visit at the Express Flyover Nkpor Nkwoka frowned at the slow pace of sanitation workers urging the Environment Committee Chairman to engage more laborers and a tipper driver to pack out the dirts and loose sands on and around the bridge.

At Oduigbo section of Nkpor Main Market he called the attention of the market leadership to stop the indiscriminate dumping of Refuse inside the drainages.

The Chairman also set up a taskforce team to monitor, arrest those dumping refuse at drainages and those street traders displaying wares on top of the drainages thereby encroaching on the main road to cause traffic gridlock.

Nkwoka also drew the attention of the Leaders of the shopping plazas around the flyover to desilt the drainages in front of their plazas on or before Thursday to avoid being penalized.

At Nkpor Junction roundabout, the Chairman also directed the INLGA Supervisory Councillor Works, Hon Ifeanyi Ekwo to immediately commence rehabilitation work at the roundabout concrete pavements which was dilapidated before the painting contractor will do the final work of beautification.

According to Nkwoka, if you come to Nkpor Junction from tomorrow it will have a different look, a lot of work has commenced. We thank Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State, we have been waiting for something to happen and it has happened, after the election as a proof that His Excellency the Governor wants governance to get to the grassroots, here will be so beautiful before Christmas celebration.

“To decongest the roads for free flow of traffic, we have instructed all the traders selling food items in front of the Nkpor Main Market opposite New Auto parts main road to relocate into the Oduigbo section of the Nkpor market. Also, very soon all the traders clustering Nkpor Junction every night will be relocated into a section of the Nkpor Main park but that will be after we have prepared the place and installed search lights for night market/life and for security of the area”, said Nkwoka.
