Amawbia Town on Friday, 29th December 2023 held her fourth edition of the annual fitness and endurance trek termed “Ugbo-Ogiliga Walk”.

The endurance and fitness walk covering about seven kilometers had Amawbia indigenes and other community dwellers turn out in their numbers to be part of the exercise and recreational programme aimed at promoting unity and healthy living in the community.

The fitness walk which started from the Central Primary School (Aguogba) Amawbia by 6.30am had participants criss-crossing the length and breath of the town with the programme terminating at the Central School field Amawbia.

Addressing journalists after the programme, the initiator of the “Ugbo-Ogiliga Walk” and member representing Awka South Constituency 2 at the Anambra State House of Assembly (ANSHA) who doubles as the Deputy Speaker of the house, Rt. Hon. Chief Chukwuma Okoye stated that the ‘Ugboogiliga Walk’ which had held sway for the past three years is aimed at keeping Amawbia together and promoting healthy living.

“The Ugbo-Ogiliga Fitness Walk is now a tradition in my town as Amawbia indigenes usually anticipates this programme at this period of every year ending aimed at encouraging unity and promoting healthy living. Sports is essential to our growth and total well-being in keeping fit and ensuring mental stability.

“This is one of our sporting programmes as we have the OBIZI Unity Cup which is in its 10th edition and the usual Amawbia Football Championship. I thank Ndi Amawbia for turning out en masse and their support towards our programmes as we promise to make it better every year,” Okoye said.

Rt. Hon. Okoye also disclosed that this year’s edition of the OBIZI Unity Cup is dedicated to celebrate Late Chief Chukwudi Okafor, the initiator of the competition.
