The Anambra State Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Mr. Isidore Chukwudi Chikere has sued for a greater synergy and collaboration with Central Bank of Nigeria ( CBN).

Comdt Isidore made the appeal on Thursday, July 14, 2022 , during a visit to the Branch Controller, CBN Awka. Mr. Isidore who was represented by Deputy Commandant, Francis Obinna Nnadi, Head of Private Guard Company Department of the Command , indicated the Command’s readiness to offer support services to CBN.

He said the areas include Staff training on personal security for a better and more safe working environment, protection of their facility classified as critical national assets/ infrastructure, and in the fight against cyber crimes / naira peddling in the State in a bid to protect the nation’s currency and economy.

Receiving the NSCDC delegation , Mr. Benedict Maduagwu, the Branch Controller CBN Awka who described the visit as appropriate and timely, conveyed Central Bank of Nigeria satisfaction with the Corps for its support in the arrest , prosecution and conviction of peddlers even as he condemned the act of hawking and selling of new currency notes on the streets stressing that such feat becomes easier with partnership with relevant agencies.

“The clampdown on vendors of naira note is hinged on Section 20 of the CBN Act, which warns against hawking counterfeiting, selling or trading in naira notes ,coins or any other note issued by the bank. CBN is determined to rid the nation of all forms of financial crimes , that is why we are happy with this call for partnership , we are well prepared to collaborate with you to enhance our operations ” he said.

Mr. Maduagwu reiterated the commitment of CBN to fight against all forms of economic and financial crimes, most importantly ,cybercrimes, and appreciated the call for partnership by NSCDC in that regard.

The visit ended with the presentation of NSCDC Act 2003 and 2007 as amended to the branch controller.
