The Nigeria Women Football League has joined the global voice to celebrate the 2023 International Day of the Girl Child.

The NWFL team led by Ms Nkechi Obi in a release said that they are not just playing the game but changing the game for girls in Nigeria.

According to the release, NWFL through Football and The Girl Child initiative is promoting the safety, security, inclusivity and personal development of the girl child through grassroots football in Nigeria.

The release reads:

At the NWFL, we’re not just playing the game; we’re changing the game for girls in Nigeria. On this International Day of the Girl Child, we proudly stand alongside the United Nations in support of the theme for the year: “Digital Generation. Our Generation.”

Our “Football and the Girl Child©” initiative is all about promoting the safety, security, inclusivity, and personal development of the girl child through grassroots football in Nigeria. This year’s UN theme resonates deeply with us because it underscores the importance of providing girls with opportunities, skills, and knowledge to thrive in the digital age.

Here’s how we’re leading the charge:
Safety & Security: We provide a secure environment where girls can explore the digital world confidently.

Inclusivity: We’re breaking down barriers, ensuring that every girl has access to the digital resources and education needed to succeed.

Personal Development: We’re not just developing athletes; we’re empowering a generation of tech-savvy, confident, and empowered young women.

Join us on this International Day of the Girl Child as we continue to engage communities in the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria and the FCT, creating awareness and promoting positive behavior change through football.
Let’s ensure that every girl is equipped to thrive in the digital age, leaving no one behind!

Together, we are building a brighter future for the girl child—the digital generation of today and tomorrow!
