Prof. Ikechebelu Plans To Make UNIZIK Octagon Golf Course Attain International Standard

The Acting Vice-Chancellor, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Prof. Joseph I. Ikechebelu, has stated the resolve of his administration towards making the UNIZIK Octagon Twin Lake Golf Course to attain International standard.

Prof. Ikechebelu made the disclosure on Boxing Day, 26th December 2024 during the one-day 2024 Christmas Kitty Golf Championship held at the institution’s Golf Course.

Prof. Ikechebelu described the Golf course as remarkable being one of the very few in the state growing in leaps and bounds since its official opening exactly a year ago under the then administration of Prof. Charles Esimone as part of his ‘Project 200’ vision.

Prof. Ikechebelu disclosed that a Public Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement is now in place with the Golf Course with a board of trustees to ensure smooth organization and seamless administration of the course with support from the institution.

The acting Vice-Chancellor also informed that other aspects of the golf club is taking shape as the target is to ensure it attains the global ranking.

The institution’s acting Chief Executive also posited that the golf course henceforth will be made busy every festive period with competitions to draw not just the citizens of the state but other followers of the game outside the state.

The scholar urged Ndi Anambra and other well meaning individuals to register at the club so as to contribute their quota towards its comprehensive development.

Highlights of the one-day Christmas Kitty Golf program was an 18-hole competition which also had the presence of the immediate past Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Charles Esimone, among captains of industries in the state and beyond.
