The Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri will be the focal point this Sunday as Enyimba International FC and Kun Khalifat FC face off in a highly anticipated NPFL Oriental Derby match.

This clash will be a historic league encounter, with both Enyimba and Kun Khalifat competing fiercely for points and pride. Enyimba aims to keep its unbeaten record intact, while Kun Khalifat seeks to prove itself as a force to reckon with in the NPFL despite being a newcomer in the elite league

Speaking ahead of the highly anticipated clash, Enyimba’s safe hands, Kelvin Ogunga, who will be returning to familiar territory in Owerri, expressed confidence and nostalgia as he looks forward to an emotional outing.

“My expectation in the Sunday encounter in Owerri is not to lose the game. I believe in this squad — me and my teammates can’t afford to disappoint our darling fans,” Ogunga said.

“The ground is like home to me, and we’re confident we can get a good result here. I expect my fans in Owerri to root for me — we’re going all out for maximum points.”

For Coach Stanley Eguma, who only recently laid his late mother to rest, the encounter carries a deeper emotional tone. Yet, the tactician remains focused and resolute as he seeks to lead Enyimba to another positive result.

“I expect a tough encounter, especially as Kun Khalifat will be aiming to prove a point,” Eguma stated.

“We are focused and have prepared well for the Oriental Derby. Enyimba is determined to continue our fine run and achieve a glorious outing in the league this season.”

Despite being without key players like Bright Emmanuel, Mujeeb Odufeso, Ekene Awazie, Ifeanyi Ihemekwele, and Uwana Asuquo, Enyimba will welcome the return of exciting forward Joseph Atule, adding firepower to an already charged squad.

With both teams known for their attacking flair and tactical discipline, the Dan Anyiam Stadium is set for fireworks as football lovers brace for 90 minutes of passion, pride, and pure Oriental rivalry.
