The #AnambraDecides2025 Preliminary Pre-Assessment Analysis has revealed that security challenges pose a significant threat to the credibility of the upcoming governorship election in Anambra State.

The ElectHER Election Hub & the ElectHER Policy and Research Center (EPRC), with funding support from the European Union-funded Support to Democratic Governance in Nigeria (EUSDGN), released a comprehensive preliminary assessment analysis for the #AnambraDecides2025 election

According to the analysis, potential security issues include violence and attacks, electoral material security breaches, voter intimidation, and cybersecurity threats. These challenges the analysis revealed could disrupt the electoral process, erode public trust, and lead to violence and humanitarian crises.

The analysis highlights the need for enhanced security measures, intelligence gathering and sharing, and electoral process transparency to mitigate these challenges.

The analysis revealed that the electoral process in Anambra faces several other challenges, including issues with voter registration, candidate nomination, and election administration. The study also reveals that certain demographics, such as women and youth, are underrepresented in the electoral process.

The analysis identifies key stakeholders, including political parties, civil society organizations, and government agencies, and assesses their roles in the electoral process.

The analysis provides stakeholders with data-driven insights to inform decision-making and strategic planning revealing that there are opportunities to enhance voter engagement and participation, particularly among underrepresented groups. It recommended that electoral institutions be strengthened, voter education programs be implemented, and transparency be fostered in the electoral process.

The European Union-funded Support to Democratic Governance in Nigeria (EUSDGN) which funded the analysis, has reiterated its commitment to supporting free, fair, and transparent elections in Nigeria.

The report’s findings and recommendations are expected to inform electoral reform efforts and promote a more transparent, inclusive, and credible electoral process in Anambra and beyond.
