The second edition of the Nwankwo Kanu Under-19 Football Tournament has begun in Aba, with six teams competing for supremacy at the Enyimba International Stadium.

The tournament, organized by Enyimba’s Sporting Director Ifeanyi Ekwueme, aims to discover new talents.

On the opening day, three matches were played, with defending champions Apex Crane FC defeating Enyimba’s Under-17 team 1-0. Other results included a 1-1 draw between Aba Madrid FC and Okwu United FC, and a goalless stalemate between Ngwa United and Petson Academy.

Coach Isaac Loute of Apex Crane FC praised the tournament, saying, “I love what I saw from the first match. It showed there are talents in the lower league. This tournament is a good one for the youths, and I think there will be more improvement as it progresses.”

The tournament features two centers, Aba and Owerri, with the winners set to meet in the grand finale at the Enyimba International Stadium. Matches will continue on June 16 at 9 am.

The teams playing in Aba centre include Enyimba FC Under-17, Ngwa United FC, Aba Madrid FC, all from Aba. Others are Petson Academy, Okwu United from Umuahia and Apex Cranes from Enugu.
