… Describes The Election As Victory For West African Football

Nigeria’s most successful football club, Enyimba International FC, has lauded the recent election of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President, Mr. Ibrahim Musa Gusau, as the new President of the West African Football Union (WAFU) Zone B, describing it as “a monumental step for the growth of football in the region.”

In a statement signed by the club’s Chairman, Nigerian football legend and global icon, Ambassador Kanu ‘Papilo’ Nwankwo, the People’s Elephant praised Gusau’s “uncommon leadership and steadfast commitment to the game,” adding that the appointment was not only deserved but timely.

“This is indeed a testament of his dedication towards advancing football development in Africa,” said Kanu. “His elevation is a clear recognition of the work he has put into repositioning Nigerian football, and we are confident he will replicate that excellence on the regional stage.”

Kanu, who has been steering Enyimba FC into a new era of structure, community development, and professionalism, emphasized that the club sees Gusau’s emergence as WAFU boss as an opportunity for deeper collaboration and progressive football initiatives across West Africa.

“On behalf of the entire management and football family of Enyimba FC, I wish to felicitate with our dear NFF President, Mr. Ibrahim Musa Gusau, on this prestigious new role,” Kanu said. “We are delighted to stand behind him and to continue working together in taking football beyond Nigeria’s coasts.”

The former Arsenal and Inter Milan forward further noted that Gusau’s leadership acumen will serve the region well. “We are without doubt that the NFF Boss will use this position to showcase his administrative dexterity and push West African football to greater heights.”

Gusau’s election to the WAFU Zone B Presidency comes at a critical time, with the region seeking greater unity, development pathways, and competitive structure for clubs and national teams alike. Enyimba’s message underscores a growing alignment between top-tier Nigerian clubs and the federation’s continental aspirations.
