He said that people from the Southeast are afraid of coming for Christmas celebration for fear of being adopted by kidnappers.

” People are kidnapping their brothers and sisters, keeping them in the bush and demanding ramson. Before now rich men would return home during Christmas and other occasions, spend their money in the communities and even train some youths in their businesses, but today, the case is different”, he said

The former Chairman lamented the rate of marriage rites being conducted in the cities instead of igboland, according to the igbo customs and tradition. “Also, that burial of our love ones are done in the cities”.

He called on all and sundry to come together and battle this monster called kidnapping , according to him”, all the criminal elements in our communities are know to us and we should stop protecting and hiding them.”

In his own speech, a house member representing Anaocha constituency at the Anambra state house of Assembly Hon. Ejike Okechukwu said Ndigbo is responsible for what is happening in the southeast, according to him, “Ndi igbo celebrate wealth working knowing the source of it.”

Regretting that today a child will come home with a car insted of parents interrogating him to know the source of it, rather he will be celebrated.

In his worlds,  “ndigbo make money, and do not pack money, nothing fails from heaven,  you work hard to make money, we know the bad people among us in our various communities, those who enjoy illegal money but instead of condemning them, we hail them as model’s, he said.”

He therefore called for everybody to come together to fight kidnapping activities surround the zone as the governors cannot do it alone.

Earlier in his speech, permanent secretary in the government house Dr Nwabufo Nwankwo said that insecurity issue in the southeast need to be tackled holistically, not for government alone. “Sometimes in our society, we know the bad people and where they live.  Some keep them, buy food for them, even go errand for them”.
