UNIZIK: Mass Communication Department To Celebrate Communication Guru, Prof. Chinyere Stella Okunna

The Department of Mass Communication, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka is set to host the Maiden edition of Professor Chinyere Stella Okunna International Conference at Awka.

The conference which has its theme as: “Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Communication Practice and Scholarship in Nigeria”, is being Organised in honour of the first female Professor of Mass Communication in Sub-saharan Africa, Prof. Chinyere Stella Okunna.

According to the Chairman of the organising committee, Dr. Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, the conference is scheduled as a one-day event on Wednesday 6th November, 2024 at the University Auditorium, Awka.

The event will be chaired by the Head, Department of Information Technology, UNIZIK, Awka, Dr. Ikechukwu Umeh, while the Vice-Chancellor, Federal University, Kashere, Gombe State, Prof. Umaru Pate is the Keynote Speaker and the Dean, Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, University of Port-Harcourt is the Lead Paper Presenter.

The immediate past Acting Vice-Chancellor, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Prof. Carol Arinze-Umobi and the Anambra State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh are expected as the Special Guest of Honour, while the traditional ruler of Igbakwu, HRH, Igwe Prof. Onuora Nwuneli will be the Royal Father of the day.

Meanwhile, the Vice-Chancellor, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka Prof. Bernard Ifeanyi Odoh is the Chief Host, and the Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, UNIZIK, Prof. Frank Collins Okafor is the Host.

Expectedly, the Head of Department, Mass Communication, UNIZIK, Prof. Allen Adum is the Convener, while the Immediate Past HOD, Dr. Chioma Agbasimelo is the Co-Convener.

The Conference which promises to attract communication and media scholars in Nigeria and beyond will be hybrid to accommodate both online and physical participants.
