Over 400 babies have been delivered in Anambra State, Nigeria through the instrumentality of the In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF) process also known as the assisted reproductive technology.

This disclosure was made known by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Anambra State and consultant Gynaecologist, Prof. Joseph Ifeanyichukwu Ikechebelu during an interview with the Newspathfinder on the technology and medical processes behind IVF.

Prof. Ikechebelu stated that as a specialist at the Life International Hospital, he has applied his God given innovation, ingenuity and wealth of experience in the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology in ensuring that relationships and marriages on the verge of collapse owing to lack of fruit of the womb are sustained.

The scholar described IVF as an affordable, available and accessible process that will aid delivery of safe children.

The member of the 9th UNIZIK Governing Council described IVF as a process that involves fusion of a woman’s egg and a man’s sperm outside the body to form an embryo before being taken into the woman’s body where it grows until the time of birth.

He also disclosed that Life International Hospital has a good neonatal care unit ready to manage a case of premature delivery of a baby.
