The Vice-Chancellor, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Prof. Charles Esimone, on Wednesday, 18th October 2023 commissioned the newly acquired 70 inches High Definition Smart board acquired by the Department of Accountancy.
He commissioned the project on the occasion of unveiling of the refurbished Rev’d Canon Prof. Ben Chuka Osisioma Management Information Systems Laboratory.
In his address, Prof. Esimone stated that the gathering couldn’t have come at a right time to honour the Doyen of Accountancy in Nigeria, Revd. Canon Prof. Osisioma for his immense contributions to the Accounting profession, education as well as mentorship and raising men and women of substance.
Esimone emphasized that Alumni associations are the strength of educational institutions the world over and are symbolic in their development as they build strategically for the University.
The institution’s Chief Executive eulogized Prof. Osisioma for his contributions to the institution while describing him as a fertile ground that attract blessings for the department and faculty at large.
He advised other scholars to adopt the good virtues of Prof. Osisioma while praying for God’s blessings and good health for the Doyen of Accountancy.
The VC also promised to equip the Prof. Osisioma MIS Lab with 100 new computer sets with support from the UNIZIK Business School under the leadership of Prof. Emma Okoye.
In her address, the Head, Department of Accountancy, Dr. Chitom John-Akamelu stated that the gathering was to commission the good fruit in the form of the 70-inches HD Triumph Smart board and to unveil the refurbished Rev’d. Canon Prof. Osisioma Management Information Systems Laboratory.
Dr. John-Akamelu appreciated UNIZIK VC for his unalloyed support and assistance to the department even as she thanked Prof. Osisioma for playing the role of a father, leader and support system for the department.
The HOD eulogized the 1996 Alumni Pioneer set of the department for their moral and material support by always assisting the department in any capacity they can afford.
The scholar stated that the department needs a broadband internet facility to power the smartboard, she thanked her senior colleagues for their elderly advice and assistance as well as all staff and students of the department.
Also speaking, the Dean, Faculty of Management Sciences, Prof. Pius Okoye averred that the honour to Prof. Osisioma is well deserved describing him as a mentor and role model to all in raising great scholars and captains of industries.
Prof. Okoye thanked Prof. Esimone for his immense support to the Faculty and his vision for ‘Project 200’. The scholar also praised the HOD Accountancy for her dedication, commitment and innovation towards the department and the faculty as a whole.
In his remarks, the President of the 1996 Alumni set, Comrade Onyekwelu Okoye described Prof. Osisioma as a man of excellence and dignity to the accounting profession in Nigeria.
The President who was represented by Comrade Umunna Nsofor emphasized that Prof. Osisioma laid a good foundation which today have yielded positive fruits.
He praised the HOD for the success of the day despite the obstacles and daunting challenges while also thanking the Dean of the Faculty and UNIZIK VC. He also pledged continuous support and commitment towards advancing the study of accounting in the institution.
High points of the occasion was the unveiling of the HD Smartboard by UNIZIK VC and entertainment in form of dancing displays by the department’s undergraduate students. The vote of thanks was given by Prof. Ngozi Ijeomah.
