Reactions have continued to trail the decision by the Federal government to borrow eight hundred million dollars from the World Bank less than weeks to the end of the present administration.

Some respondents in Awka, Anambra state described the proposal as unnecessary aimed at reaping off the country in the name of cushioning the effects of removal of oil subsidy

President Muhammadu Buhari had in April sent a letter to the National Assembly seeking to approve the collection of loan that would be used to disburse to about ten million households and fifty million vulnerable Nigerians under the National safety net programme.

The Member representing Njiokoka Constituency One in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Doctor Timothy Ifedioramma said not only that the timing of the request is totally wrong , it is an issue that should not even have come out in the first place.

Doctor Ifedioramma who said the letter was backdated with a lot of uncertainties , wandered why the administration that is winding up will disburse the fund to the people assuming it is approved by the national Assembly.

He therefore called on the Law makers and other stakeholders to turn down the request in the overall interest of the nation and its citizens .

Describing the request as ridiculous and embarrassing, Doctor Pete Ibida representing Njiokoka Constituency Two, said the National Assembly can not defend such decision if by any means they approve of it against the wishes of Nigerians.

Doctor Ibida, however, said if the incoming administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu considers such policy important and decides to represent the request, it would be debated before consideration.

He regretted that the debt profile of the Country kept increasing to the detriment of the citizens who are already impoverished.

A Public Affairs Commentator, Ozor Obi Ochije observed that if the loan gets approval of the National Assembly, it will mean that the leaders of Nigeria don’t really have conscience and hardly care about the masses.

Ozor Ochije therefore called on the law makers to throw away the request as the timing was not in the interest of the poor people the executive claimed it is meant for.

Our correspondent reports that other respondents described the plan to borrow eight hundred million dollars as the height of impunity that is not acceptable by the people.
