The Anambra State Police Command on Monday rounded off activities to honour Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, as he bowed out of the Nigeria Police Force after decades of service.
The week-long tribute began on August 3 with a birthday thanksgiving. It was followed on August 5 by a State Executive Council send-forth hosted by Governor Charles Soludo, and a ceremonial Pull-Out Parade at the Police Command Headquarters in Awka.
Governor Soludo described the retired AIG as “an exceptional officer” who improved police-community relations and recorded major gains in the fight against crime in Anambra.
Family members, retired officers, traditional rulers, and heads of security agencies were present at the parade, which was conducted in full police tradition.
In a statement, the Command said it remains committed to sustaining the security progress recorded under AIG Orutugu’s leadership.
For AIG Ikioye Orutugu, the week of August 3rd was more than retirement. It was a celebration of life, service, and impact.
First came birthday prayers. Then Anambra State rolled out the drums at a Government House send-forth. Finally, his men gave him a ceremonial Pull-Out Parade in Awka — the police tradition that marks the end of active service.
Governor Soludo and other speakers didn’t just talk about crime statistics. They spoke about partnership, trust, and a policing style that brought communities and security agencies closer.
As he exited the parade ground for the last time, colleagues described him as professional, people-focused, and committed.
The Command says the foundation he built will guide policing in the state going forward.
