Nigeria have stormed into the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, after a dominant 6-2 win over Egypt at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat.
It was a seven-goal thriller. Asisat Oshoala, Gift Monday, Uchenna Kanu with a brace, Christy Ucheibe, Rasheedat Ajibade and debutant Joy Omewa all got on the scoresheet for Nigeria.
Egypt pulled one back from the penalty spot through Nadine Ghazi after a foul by Michelle Alozie. Ghazi later grabbed her second to make it 4-2, but the Falcons were not done.
Esther Babajide provided the assist for Kanu’s second, Ajibade converted Nigeria’s third penalty of the night in the 90th minute, and Joy Omewa capped it all with her first ever WAFCON goal.
In the other Group C match, Zambia beat Malawi 2-1. But that result wasn’t enough to save the Copper Queens, as Nigeria progressed to the last eight on goal difference.
The Super Falcons will now turn their attention to the quarter-finals as they chase a record-extending 10th WAFCON title.
