The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria inaugurated a seven-member electoral committee on Thursday, May 14, 2026, and granted a one-month extension for its Triennial Delegates Congress.

The decisions came at the SWAN Full Council Meeting attended by NEC members and state chapter leaders. The Council approved the extension following an appeal, pushing the congress to hold between July and August 2026.

SWAN President Isaiah Benjamin inaugurated the committee and urged members to conduct a credible, transparent, free and fair election in line with the association’s statutes.

Hembadoon Orsar chairs the committee, with Jacob Onjewu Dickson as secretary. Other members are Bisi Ogunleye, Bala Bawaji, Chimezie Anaso, Emmanuel Akpan and Bushrat Yusuf.

Speaking for the panel, Orsar pledged to uphold SWAN’s integrity and standards in the election process. The Council also commended members for their unity and commitment to the association’s growth.
