The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau has confirmed that the pilots of Air Peace Boeing 737-500 that overshot the runway at Port Harcourt International Airport during a flight from Lagos were under the influence of alcohol.

The incident put the lives of 103 people onboard at risk.

The flight had 96 passengers and 7 crew members. Investigations revealed that both pilots consumed alcohol before the flight, and one flight attendant tested positive for cannabis.

The aircraft touched down almost three-quarters of the way along the 3,000-meter runway and came to a halt on the grass verge. Passengers disembarked without injury.

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau noted concerns about discipline, professionalism, and safety culture within the airline. The Bureau directed Air Peace to strengthen crew fitness checks and reinforce training on go-around procedures
