Christians have been called to pay regular visits to Correctional Centres across the Nation and take care of the inmates.
The Metropolitan Archbishop of Owerri Archdiocese, Most Reverend Lucius Ugorji gave the advice in his sermon at St.Lazarus Catholic Chaplaincy, Federal Correctional Centre Owerri during his Pastoral visit.
Archbishop Ugorji said on the last day, God will judge people based on how they identified with inmates of the correctional center.
He made it clear that not all the people in the Correctional Centres are criminals and not all the criminals are in the Correctional Centre.
The Prelate said Jesus enjoined Christians to love their neighbors in line with the parable of the good Samaritan and urged the congregation of St Lazarus Catholic Chaplaincy Owerri to take care of their nearest neighbors inmates of Federal Correctional Centre Owerri.
Archbishop Ugorji reiterated his call on Government and the Judiciary to look into the case of people awaiting Trials in the Correctional Centres.
Speaking, the Chaplain St.Lazarus Chaplaincy, Very Reverend Father Jude Onyeakazi expressed joy with the visit of Archbishop Ugorji said commended him for the transformation going on in the Archdiocese which is elevating the people spiritually.
In his remarks, the chairman Pastoral Council Sir Okechukwu Awogu thanked Archbishop Ugorji for addressing the pressing challenges affecting the Focal Prison community centering on outreach, Education and sustainability.
