The Federal Government has reinstated Prof. Joseph Ifeanyichukwu Ikechebelu as the Acting Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.
This development was made public on Thursday, 21st November 2024 through a memo from the Federal Ministry of Education endorsed by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Nasir Sani-Gwarzo dated November 20th, 2024 with the caption, “REINSTATEMENT AS THE ACTING VICE-CHANCELLOR OF NNAMDI AZIKIWE UNIVERSITY, AWKA, ANAMBRA STATE.”
The letter reads, “Sequel to the approval of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, vide letter REF: PRES/84/EDU/10 dated 18th November, 2024 nullifying the appointment of Prof. Bernard Ifeanyi Odoh as the 7th Substantive Vice-Chancellor of the University who was illegally appointed by the dissolved 10th Governing Council of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, I am pleased to convey the approval of the Honourable Minister to reinstate you as the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University with immediate effect.
“Consequently, you are directed to take charge of the administration of the University. Take note that henceforth any matter that requires the approval of the Governing Council shall be forwarded to the Honourable Minister of Education for his consideration and approval pending the re-constitution of a new Governing Council for the University by Mr. President.
“Please accept the assurances of my warm regards,” the letter read.
In a similar vein, the Federal Government has also reinstated Mr. Victor Ikechukwu Modebelu as the Acting Registrar to take over from Barr. (Mrs) Rosemary Ifeoma Nwokike who was relieved of duty by the Federal Government as the elected Substantive Registrar by the Amb. Greg Mbadiwe’s led dissolved Governing Council.
