The National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) Nnamdi Azikiwe University chapter recently organized a 2-day workshop on Leadership Excellence in Laboratory Innovations and Management for senior technologists in the university.

In his opening speech, the Chairman of the UNIZIK chapter, Engr. Chinedu Umembamalu said that the workshop was more than just a training session. He described it as a platform for technologists to rethink, recharge, and retool themselves for leadership in a fast-changing academic world.

Engr UmeMbamalu noted that Technologists are the engine room of teaching, research, and innovation, and that a well-managed and forward-thinking laboratory system is crucial for a university’s excellence.

He highlighted the theme of the workshop, “Leadership Excellence in Laboratory Innovations and Management,” and explained that it reminds technologists of the need to focus on innovations with the right mindset and leadership that inspires others.

The Chairman expressed his appreciation to the leadership of NAAT for their vision and commitment to professionalism, which was evident in the presence of the participants. He encouraged the technologists to participate fully and show that academic technologists are not just part of the system, but the heart of innovations within.

The facilitators delivered lectures on various topics, including leadership traits, the role of technologists, laboratory management, and laboratory operations. The workshop aimed to equip technologists with the necessary leadership skills to excel in their roles.
