The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Kwara State chapter, in collaboration with the Khadijat Toyin Musah Foundation, has organized a one-day medical outreach for members as part of efforts to promote health awareness and healthy living.

Speaking at the event, the Kwara State Coordinator of KTM Foundation, Mr. AbdulBasit Olarewaju, said the outreach was designed to educate SWAN members on healthy living and preventive methods.

According to him, the results of medical screenings conducted at the programme, health tips and professional guidance provided by the foundation’s medical personnel would go a long way in helping members address various health-related challenges, avoid complications and improve their overall well-being.

Also speaking, a member of the KTM Foundation team, Blessing Osho, who delivered a presentation on HIV/AIDS, stressed the importance of maintaining proper hygiene, avoiding exposure to infection through unsafe blood transfusions and contaminated sharp objects and engaging in unguarded sexual intercourse with strangers.

She emphasized the need for regular testing, noting that knowing one’s HIV status remains a crucial step in preventing the spread of the disease and ensuring timely medical intervention.

Another member of the medical team, Ayomide Grace, who spoke on hypertension and high-blood pressure management, advocated regular exercise, routine medical check-ups, and reduced consumption of salty and oily foods as effective measures for preventing hypertension and other related health conditions.

She also urged participants be responsible in their consumption of excessive alcoholic drinks, describing moderation as essential to maintaining good health.

Earlier, the Chairman of Kwara SWAN, Mallam Ayodeji Ismail, commended the KTM Foundation for partnering with the association, noting that the collaboration had significantly enhanced health awareness among members.

Mallam Ismail assured that the association would continue to partner with relevant stakeholders in advancing the welfare of members, particularly in the area of health and well-being.

The KTM Foundation was founded by Professor Khadijat Toyin Musah, a Professor of Nursing science at the Federal University, Otuoke, Bayelsa State.
